Well, my mother, Raging Hippie Grandma, begs to differ with my assertion that I was “no trouble,” and offers this message on the subject:
~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Raging Dad,
I read your Daddy Blog and yes, Sonny is his daddy’s son. You were wild—you gave up your 20 minute a day nap at 11 months. Grandma would not babysit you for more then 2 or 3 hours and that was very seldom and NO overnights. We had our own drugs (no therapy) but we didn’t have other little kids around as you do. Your Raging Big Brother mostly had his own life, reading and playing quietly. So, we let you be. Sometimes you would run circles through the kitchen, dining room, and living room. We let you (encouraged you)—burn up some energy. You talked or sang constantly and had your own ideas about everything.
We dressed you as a devil at Halloween. You had had red pajamas and it seemed a natural choice.
When Raging Hippie Grandpa John would come home after being gone on the road for 6 days for work, I would make him take you out without me. I needed the quiet time. He’d take you everywhere: shopping, the video store, the guitar repair place, the dump, visiting friends.
Those years were lots of work but never dull. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. It was fun, interesting and wonderful. We had lots of fun, played many games and read lots and lots of books.
Hang in there, before you know it he’ll be all grown up.
Love, Raging Hippie Grandma
Oh man. That message made my day. Thanks for the perspective, Mom. I love you so much.
Dear readers, Raging Hippie Grandma is an amazing woman. So if she says I was hard work, I believe her. She met Breast Cancer a few years ago, stared him down and told him to piss off. If Raging Hippie Grandpa John were here to straighten me out, he’d tell me to listen to Raging Fearless Hippie Grandma.
Wow. Nothing like being called out by your mom.
The picture is adorable (group awww), and I am thoroughly happy I came across this blog today.
You are a funny, funny guy!
Thanks for the compliment! I’m just excited to see that someone is reading it!
